There’s something universally comforting about a warm churro dipped in thick chocolate… And few places capture that magic better than Mexico City’s Churrería El Moro, a nearly century-old institution that’s become synonymous with sweet late-night cravings and café culture, and now, that tradition is finally making its way to Los Angeles.
The legendary Mexican chain is set to open its first L.A. location very soon in Echo Park, right on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Laveta Terrace. The spot (which once housed Patra Burgers), has been completely transformed, swapping out diner vibes for El Moro’s signature cream-colored tiles, bright blue neon, and cheerful art that practically smells like cinnamon.
Founded in 1935 by Francisco Iriarte, El Moro has been serving churros and chocolate to generations of chilangos and tourists alike. Its success in Mexico City, with 17 locations across the city, turned it into a cultural landmark, while the brand’s U.S. debut took place in Costa Mesa back in 2023.
At the brand-new Echo Park location, angelenos can expect El Moro’s classics featuring fresh churros served with seven varieties of dipping chocolate, rich champurrado, café de olla, and even churro ice cream sandwiches.
While the precise opening date hasn’t been confirmed, construction appears nearly complete, with the iconic neon sign already in place. On social media, the El Moro team has teased that the grand opening is coming “very soon”, so stay tuned for upcoming news…
