Halloween is just around the corner, which means Los Angeles is about to enter one of the best seasons of the year, filled with haunted happenings and spooky parties. Among the coolest traditions returning this year is Cinespia’s outdoor movie series at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where some of the most beloved horror and cult films get a fittingly eerie setting beneath the stars.
Four horror classics are coming to Hollywood Forever
The Halloween lineup kicks off on Saturday, October 3, with Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride. The beautifully twisted animated romance follows Victor, a nervous groom who accidentally marries a deceased bride after placing his wedding ring on what he thinks is a twig. The screening sets the tone for the month with DJ sets, drinks, a free photo booth, and plenty of opportunities to dress for the occasion.
On Saturday, October 10, Cinespia will screen Carrie to celebrate the horror classic’s 50th anniversary. Starring Sissy Spacek as the bullied teenager with telekinetic powers, Brian De Palma’s 1976 film builds toward one of cinema’s most infamous prom nights. Guests can bring their own picnic, beer, and wine, or grab burgers, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, and candy from vendors.
The Halloween weekend festivities begin on Friday, October 30, with Jennifer’s Body. Megan Fox stars as Jennifer, a possessed high school student who develops a taste for her male classmates, while Amanda Seyfried plays her best friend Needy. The cult favorite will be accompanied by DJ sets, drinks, and a free photo booth.
Finally, Saturday, October 31 brings The Thing to the cemetery for Halloween night. John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi horror classic stars Kurt Russell as a member of an Antarctic research team fighting a shape-shifting alien capable of assimilating its victims. Guests are encouraged to come in costume, with DJs playing before and after the screening.
Tickets are available already and listed at $35, while the event can accommodate up to 4,000 moviegoers per night, turning the cemetery into one of L.A.’s most atmospheric outdoor cinemas.
