Disneyland in California is getting an exciting new addition – and we just got an update on its status!
An Avatar Experience is headed to the beloved theme park. DisneyParks Blog recently announced that they’re transforming a portion of the Hollywood Backlot area into the attraction.
While the project is still in early stages of development, Disney did share that they’re closing the Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! experience to make room for it. Its run will end in early 2026.
More details about the Avatar attraction’s timeline will be shared as it gets closer to opening day, but DisneyParksBlog previously a description of what it will look like at 2024’s Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
“At Disney Experiences, Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places,” said Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro. “And we have Imagineers in place right now all around the world because everything we’re going to share with you is in active development. Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving.”
The experience will take inspiration from the 2022 film Avatar: The Way of Water as well as upcoming Avatar films. The latest update comes just ahead of the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash later this year, which hits big screens this December.
“This new and thrilling excursion will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar, taking guests all the way to the wide-open seas of Pandora,” reads the blog description.
The multi-year construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2026, alongside a new Coco-themed ride.
