Dolly Parton left an invaluable mark on American culture, not only through legendary songs like “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” but also through her larger-than-life personality and decades of charitable work. And luckily for us, the country music icon also called the city home for several years.
Now, just weeks after her passing, her former Hollywood Hills residence is back on the market for the first time in a quarter-century, offering a glimpse into one of her chapters in California.
Inside Dolly Parton’s former Hollywood Hills home
Listed for $7.95 million, the four-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom property is tucked behind gates at the end of a cul-de-sac in the Bird Streets, an exclusive neighborhood above the Sunset Strip. The residence spans 4,689 square feet on a roughly 0.35-acre lot, with sweeping views of the city skyline and the Pacific Ocean.
Parton and her late husband, Carl Dean, purchased the home in 1985 for $750,000, according to property records. They sold it in 1990 for $1.2 million. Although the property has changed hands since then, the current listing marks its return to the market after 25 years.
Built in 1977, the house has undergone a significant transformation. According to the listing, it was rebuilt in 2009 and has received further upgrades since then. Today, its interiors feature soaring ceilings, custom finishes, built-in shelving, and expansive glass walls that bring the surrounding landscape into view.
The home features an entertainer’s kitchen with high-end appliances, a wine fridge, and access to a terrace with a heated pool and spa. Other highlights include a library, media room, ground-floor bedroom, and three fireplaces.
Upstairs, the primary suite boasts a private city-view deck, walk-in closet, coffee bar, two bathrooms, and flexible office or gym space. Two additional bedrooms each have their own bathroom.
From a Tennessee cabin to a California hideaway

Parton’s real estate story began far from the Hollywood Hills. One of 12 children, she grew up in a modest cabin in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, a home that has since been recreated at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge.
As her career grew, so did her property portfolio, which included her longtime home in Brentwood, Tennessee, and other residences across the country. Yet her connection to California extended beyond real estate, as Dolly put her resources toward helping others.
In 2023, she donated a cabin in Idyllwild to Ronald McDonald House Charities of SoCal, providing a place for families whose children were receiving treatment for serious medical conditions.
