We’ve got sad news: the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District is losing another iconic gathering space. After almost three decades of brewing in L.A. and 13 years in the Arts District, Angel City Brewery is permanently shutting its doors this Thursday, April 30, 2026.
The brewery joins a growing list of local establishments that have recently closed. With just 2 days left before the taps run dry for the last time, read on as we take a look back at the brewery’s rich history, from its earliest days to the institution it became.
And if you want to raise a glass in tribute, you won’t be alone. The community is coming together for one final, historic toast. Details on how to be part of that farewell are below.
A 30-year L.A. legacy

Angel City Brewery is a pioneer of L.A.’s modern craft beer movement with a uniquely grassroots history:
- 1997: The brand was originally launched by Michael Bowe in Culver City, starting modestly before rapidly expanding as a leader in the local craft beer scene.
- 2004: In a wildly ambitious move, the company purchased a massive 8,000-barrel, German-manufactured brewhouse located in Alpine Village directly off eBay!
- 2012: It was acquired by Boston Beer, which made the local tavern a hotspot in L.A. They turned it into a popular hub for art, community events, and craft beer enthusiasts.
The final day of service
Fortunately, you can still raise one final glass in Angel City. The brewery is opening its doors for a brief, official send-off. Afterward, it will shut down for good.
