This year, the eight days of Hanukkah take place from Sunday, December 14 through Monday, December 22, meaning they’ll also coincide with some of L.A.’s biggest Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations. There are hundreds of activities to sift through during the holiday season, but we found some special Los Angeles Hanukkah events, festivals, and seasonal activities that speak to the spirit of the holiday.

The name of this holiday can be spelled multiple ways, including “Hanukkah” and “Chanukah.” We’ve spelled it below depending on how the respective events chose to spell it.
1. Attend one of these stunning menorah lighting ceremonies in Los Angeles

2. Enjoy latkes, sufganiyot, and other traditional Jewish foods at a local restaurant

One of the best parts of the holiday season is all the delicious seasonal food available across L.A.’s restaurant scene. Where do you like to get your Hanukkah treats in Los Angeles? From latkes to challah, you can pick up all sorts of traditional foods if you know where to go.
- Canter’s Deli – This Jewish-style deli dates back almost a century in LA and is known for amazing pastrami, corned beef, matzo ball soup, challah, lox and bagels, latkes, and brisket.
- Charlie’s Kosher Delicatessen – Charlie’s is an old-school kosher restaurant in LA with classic mouthwatering dishes including kashe varnishkes, latkes, kugels, knishes, borscht, and much more.
- Langer’s Delicatessen – People think of Langer’s as a local authority on pastrami, especially in the form of their #19 sandwich. While sandwiches are the name of the game here, you’ll find all sorts of Jewish treats to indulge in this Hanukkah.
- Mensch Bakery – This kosher bakery in Hancock Park offers an amazing selection of specialty sufganiyot, challah, and over-the-top donuts.
- Schwartz Bakery – As the oldest kosher bakery in LA, Schwartz has spent decades crafting delicious mandel bread, hamentashen, and challah, all of which come in a ton of different flavors.
- Fred’s Bakery and Deli – Fred’s sells a fine array of carefully-crafted challah, sufganiyot, rugalach, and more baked goods that are often vegan-friendly.
3. Build Lego menorahs at the Original Farmers Market’s celebration

The Original Farmers Market will host a charming lineup of holiday events this season. Their Hanukkah event will bring some fun all-ages events to the Market Plaza, including performances by J Los Angeles, Lego menorah building, arts and crafts, and sing-alongs. They’ll also host a menorah lighting on Dec. 14th.

4. Attend Yeshivat Yavneh’s PTA Book Fair
Yeshivat Yavneh, or the Yavneh Hebrew Academy, is hosting a weeklong PTA Book Fair in the middle of the month. It’s a good opportunity to support local Hebrew students and faculty.

5. Get tickets for the long-running Matzoball, a Jewish singles holiday party
This nationwide Jewish singles holiday event has been around for 39 years running, with events in 10 different US cities. Los Angeles’ edition will go down on Dec. 24th at SkyBar. Bear in mind that the event is 21+ and general admission costs $50.

6. Join the festivities at Jewish Silver Lake’s Chanukah Klez Fest
Jewish Silver Lake will host Klez Fest just a few days before New Year’s Eve. Enjoy a fire show, a menorah lighting, a balloon artist, pickle making, and a popular Gelt Drop at this afternoon celebration.
