Nostalgia doesn’t get much cheaper than this. Irv’s Burgers, the West Hollywood burger stand with roots stretching back to the 1940s, is marking its 80th anniversary on Wednesday, August 26, by selling its signature Roadside Burger for just 80 cents — for one day only, at all six of its locations.
The anniversary deals
The offer applies to the classic single Roadside Burger, available while supplies last and limited to one per customer, in-store only. It’s not available online or through delivery apps. Alongside the headline deal, Irv’s is rolling out a few extra perks for the occasion: customers 80 and older get a Roadside Burger completely free with valid ID, limited-edition 80th anniversary merch (hats, tees, and pins) will be available for purchase, and free stickers will be handed out while they last. There’s also a charitable component — for every full-size combo sold that day, Irv’s will donate 80 cents to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Three Square, a hunger-relief organization serving Southern Nevada.
The history behind Irv’s Burgers
California has no shortage of burger joints, but very few carry enough history to become genuine landmarks. Irv’s story goes back to 1946, when it opened along historic Route 66 in West Hollywood under the name Queen’s Burgers, greeting travelers with a sign that read “No Lobster, Just Burgers.” In 1970, Irv Gendis purchased the business and renamed it after himself, cementing the identity it’s carried ever since. The stand has since become one of the last surviving originals from L.A.’s early roadside burger era, known for its fresh, never-frozen patties and old-school counter service. The City of West Hollywood has even designated Irv’s a cultural resource, recognizing its deep community ties and its place in the city’s culinary history.
