L.A. is about to experience World Cup fever in a big way. Koreatown organizers have officially announced a series of massive outdoor FIFA World Cup viewing events this June, transforming neighborhood streets and public spaces into community-wide celebrations centered around South Korea’s group stage matches.
With South Korea set to play three matches in Mexico throughout June, thousands of fans are expected to gather for watch parties featuring giant LED screens, food vendors, performances, and all-day programming designed to bring together communities from across Los Angeles.
Beginning with South Korea’s opening match on June 11, Koreatown’s watch parties promise something much bigger than simply watching soccer.
⚽ What to expect at Koreatown’s World Cup watch parties
This isn’t your average sports bar viewing experience. Throughout June, visitors can expect:
• Massive outdoor screenings on giant LED displays
• Street closures creating pedestrian-friendly block party spaces
• Food trucks and sponsor activations throughout event areas
• Live performances and entertainment before kickoff
• Community programming and cultural activities throughout the day
• Thousands of fellow fans creating one of L.A.’s largest World Cup atmospheres
• Family-friendly outdoor spaces designed for all ages
Keep in mind that parking will be limited. Organizers are encouraging public transit, rideshare services, and possible shuttle options.
📍 Where the watch parties are happening
June 11 and June 24: Liberty Park
South Korea’s opening match on June 11 and its June 24 match against South Africa will both be screened at Liberty Park, where organizers expect between 1,500 and 2,000 attendees.
Serrano Avenue adjacent to the park will close to accommodate food vendors and pedestrian space, while a large LED screen facing Wilshire Boulevard will broadcast the matches.
Programming begins at 2:00 PM before evening kickoff times.
June 18: Seoul International Park
The biggest event of the group stage may happen on June 18 when South Korea faces Mexico. It’s a matchup that organizers expect could attract between 2,000 and 3,000 attendees.
Normandie Avenue will close along the same stretch typically used during the annual Korean Festival, creating an expanded festival footprint around Seoul International Park.
Programming for the Mexico match begins at 10:00 AM and will continue throughout the day.
🌎 More than just soccer
These aren’t simply World Cup viewing parties. They’re full-on neighborhood festivals.
Koreatown leaders say the goal is to transform the matches into community-wide celebrations that bring together Korean, Mexican, and broader Los Angeles communities around one shared experience.
With the FIFA World Cup returning to North America for the first time since 1994, organizers say this summer feels especially significant for Korean Americans who grew up watching previous tournaments overseas and now get to celebrate much closer to home.
Whether you’re showing up for the soccer, the food trucks, or simply want to experience one of L.A.’s biggest World Cup atmospheres without buying stadium tickets, Koreatown is the city’s unofficial fan zone this summer.
