Dog lovers, you can sit this one out. Calling all cat lovers!! We have some pawsome news — one of our Los Angeles County cities has officially made it to the list of the best city for cats and cat lovers according to a study by LawnStarter.
Their research analyzed the 200 largest cities in the United States across four main categories: accessibility to animal shelters, veterinary services, and cat-friendly housing, as well as affordability. Additionally, as part of their assessment, they considered 15 indicators related to cat-friendliness.
Out of 200, our beloved local town Pasadena ranked number 29 as one of the best places for cat owners. Here’s a breakdown of how the city scored across the board
- Pasadena Overall Rank: 29
- Overall Score: 41.67
- Cat Access: 13
- Care Access: 58
- Cat-Friendly Housing and Accommodations: 103
- Affordability: 7
Now what do these numbers mean exactly? They assigned scores out of 100 points to each city to evaluate its ranking within individual factors, categories, and overall. The Overall Score for a city is derived from the average of its scores across all factors. Cities with the highest Overall Score are designated as “Best” or number 1 — while those with the lowest score are labeled as “Worst” or number 200. It’s also worth noting that the “Worst” ranking among individual factors may not necessarily correspond to number 200 due to ties in the ranks.
We know that you might be a curious cat about who is number 1… well according to the study: Orlando, Florida is the top place for cat owners. So if you’re thinking of going on vacation with Mr.Whiskers, then it looks like that’s the purrfect destination. As for the “Worst” — it seems Detroit, Michigan has taken that title.
