New Candlelight Programs
Candlelight offers a wide range of music genres and styles and it continues to surprise audiences with new musical offerings each season. This year, Angelinos can look forward to an array of tributes to contemporary artists, starting with rock icons Pink Floyd. If you’re looking to get the party started, there’s a fantastic new tribute to Bad Bunny coming to Glendale. Or if listening to timeless divas is more your thing, you can listen to the unique melodies of Rihanna and Whitney Houston songs. For fans of video games, there’s a new addition to the mix all about celebrating the lyrical sound of The Legend of Zelda.
You can also enjoy an intimate tribute to Luis Miguel, and rediscover some of your favorite sci-fi and fantasy film soundtracks at the Skirball Cultural Center. Don’t miss out on these unique performances.
Candlelight Pictures the Movies
Does a sense of adventure come over you when you hear the Pirates of the Caribbean film score? Do you feel mischievous listening to “Zooster’s Breakout” from Madagascar? If you feel connected to a film or tv series through its music then Candlelight concerts honoring composers such as Hans Zimmer and Joe Hisaishi will suit your tastes perfectly. This summer, Skirball Cultural Center and the Historic Woman’s Club will light up with the glow of hundreds of candles to set the scene for these enchanting tribute to movie magic.
Candlelight Tributes to Contemporary Artists
What does it mean to be a contemporary artist? It means forming the art of today. Candlelight turns contemporary music on its head by rewinding the instrumental clock. Hearing a string quartet perform “Shake It Off” at a tribute to Taylor Swift is a far cry from the gut-wrenching suspense Swifties go through at one of Swift’s live performances. However, don’t be fooled by Candlelight’s understated concept.
Tributes to contemporary artists taking place across Los Angeles, and around the rest of the world, allow you to appreciate the music you love in an entirely new way. Let down your alternative rock guard and be amazed while a talented pianist transfers Coldplay’s songs over to the classical genre.
