Fresh Rebrand
The Los Angeles Clippers are looking to double their fanbase, and they’re betting that this new look will attract them in droves. Most fans agreed that a rebranding was necessary. The Clippers’ past logo depicted a basketball with a giant blue “C” containing “LA” inside of it, and many fans have called it dull and generic.
Nautical History
The team’s name comes from its former California home in San Diego from the clipper ships that used to crowd the shores. Team officials decided to keep the original colors and name and pay homage to the nautical heritage and origins of it. Now the new logo features a mix of motifs, like a compass and a naval ship.
Fierce New Look
If the new ship looks a little menacing to you, that’s because they planned it that way. Team officials wanted the ship to look like it was coming straight at you. Plus, the ship’s sails mimic actual sails in the wind because of the edges curving slightly. The “C” logo also features nautical images. It’s a mix between a compass and a loop hook where a sailor might knot a rope. Additionally, the font used for the new logo is similar to ones used on naval ships. Every single aspect of the Clippers’ new logo is nautical inspired.
