The scorching heat wave gripping Los Angeles County, especially parts of the Antelope Valley — is set reach its highest today, July 10, 2024 — with temperatures surging above 110 degrees yet again.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Lancaster is set to reach a scorching 112 degrees, while Palmdale will hover around 110 degrees. Both LA County cities have already broken records for consecutive days over 110 degrees, hitting six days on Tuesday, marking a seventh day on Wednesday. Beyond the desert, Downtown Los Angeles is expected to reach 91 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, dipping slightly to 88 degrees on Friday and 86 degrees on Saturday. Pasadena in the San Gabriel Valley will experience temperatures of 96 degrees on Wednesday and 95 degrees on Thursday.

Looking ahead, a slight cooling trend is anticipated starting Friday as high pressure shifts eastward and a weak trough develops along the coast. Although temperatures across the region are expected to decrease by 2 to 5 degrees, the Antelope Valley will still remain up to 5 degrees above normal, reported by the NWS.

- Stay Indoors: If possible, stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day when the sun is at its highest point.

- Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Regularly check on pets, elderly family members, neighbors, and those with chronic medical conditions who may be more susceptible to heat-related illness.
