With a total length of 48.5 miles and 44 stations, the A Line’s new four-station addition makes it the longest of its kind in the world. Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne/Fairplex, and Pomona North are the brand-new stations set to open this Friday, September 19.
But beyond the record that lets us brag about our public transportation system, one of the biggest highlights is that, according to L.A. Metro, this new extension will give students (and faculty) access to no fewer than 19 nearby college campuses.
The A Line begins in Azusa and now stretches all the way to Pomona North, running through the San Gabriel Valley before continuing south through downtown Los Angeles and all the way to Long Beach.
Getting to the new stations will also be a lot easier thanks to Foothill Transit, which is rolling out both new and restructured routes to serve the extension. Among the most important are Lines 291, 492, 284, and 197, along with the brand-new Line 295 that links San Dimas with Cal Poly Pomona and Mt. SAC.

The project provides a long-awaited alternative to the frequently congested 210, including a key connection to Metrolink’s San Bernardino Line at Pomona Station. It will make transit travel faster and more convenient between the Foothill Cities and the Inland Empire, giving riders easier access to jobs, schools, parks, and other important destinations.
