Los Angeles is no stranger to praise — just this year, it’s landed a top spot on a list of the country’s best breakfast destinations and the world’s best cities for 2024. L.A. foodies will be delighted to know that the Michelin Guide has released a new list of the most-anticipated restaurant openings from Michelin chefs for 2024, and four of the sixteen are right here in Los Angeles.
The coveted L.A. restaurant openings include a continuation of chef Rose Previte’s Middle Eastern eatery in Washington D.C. and a popular sushi bar out of New York from chef Daisuke Nakazawa. Read on for more details about all four restaurants.
1. Maydān Market
Chef Rose Previte plans to open a new 10,000-square-foot marketplace in West Adams featuring a new rendition of her celebrated 1-Michelin-starred restaurant out of Washington D.C. The new Maydān Market in L.A. will not only serve the classic Middle Eastern dishes that Washingtonians have been enjoying for years; lucky for us, we’ll also get to indulge in Previte’s globally-inspired cocktail bar Compass Rose and an additional 5 businesses showcasing family recipes. Maydān Market is currently hosting periodic pop-up markets for guests who want to scout out the space before its grand opening — follow @maydanmarket on Instagram for the latest.

2. Somni
Aitor Zabala’s 2-Michelin-star restaurant Somni enjoyed a brief but very successful 28 months at The Bazaar in Beverly Hills before hotel ownership closed the restaurant in 2020. Zabala has since found a way to reopen the celebrated eatery serving delicious Catalan-meets-Californian cuisine, this time at a 3,700-square-foot home in West Hollywood. The restaurant will serve a multi-course tasting menu to just 14 guests per night. You can keep up with the Somni’s reopening progress at @somnirestaurant on Instagram.

3. Sushi Nakazawa LA
Sushi Nakazawa has been a celebrated New York institution since 2013, opening an additional successful location in Washington, D.C. in 2018. Both East Coast locations have been awarded their own Michelin stars, so it’s no wonder that Angelenos are already lining up to savor chef Daisuke Nakazawa‘s delectable omakase experience. You might know Nakazawa from cult documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi, as he famously apprenticed with master Jiro Ono. This latest ocean-themed sushi bar will open in a 2,000-square-foot-space on Robertson Boulevard under the design leadership of Studio UNLTD.

4. Vespertine
Chef Jordan Kahn’s restaurant Vespertine racked up two Michelin stars before closing in March 2020, and L.A. foodies are eager to see its new revival. The restaurant seeks to “re-imagine and explore the experience of dining” with an immersive and artistic experience, where guests will taste 16 different dishes as they move through four different dining spaces. The reimagined Vespertine will include collaborations with artists in other mediums, including Icelandic vocalist Jónsi and American producer/composer Paul Corley.
