Southern California has been absolutely soaked after an unusually wet weekend that saw scattered showers explode into heavy downpours on Saturday. And the rain didn’t let up until pockets of showers finally tapered Sunday afternoon. The result is record-setting totals across the region and an already historic month of November rainfall in SoCal.
As of 4:30 a.m. Sunday, downtown Los Angeles officially reached 2.57 inches of rain for the month, blasting past typical November averages and pushing us well beyond the 1985 benchmark. There was a record of 1.65″ rain on Saturday alone!
Despite the intense rainfall, officials reported no major damage in fire-scarred neighborhoods like Altadena and Pacific Palisades, which faced the biggest landslide risks. A flood advisory stayed in effect through Sunday afternoon as saturated hillsides remained unstable, especially in communities previously hit by January wildfires. But if you thought the weekend was wild, get ready because the rain isn’t done yet.
🌧️ Storm #1: Monday–Tuesday
A second system is moving in, bringing light rain starting midmorning Monday and lasting through Tuesday. Forecasters say we could see up to another inch of rain, along with a 10–20% chance of thunderstorms across SoCal.
🌧️ Storm #2: Late Week
A third storm is already lining up offshore and is expected to hit later in the week. The National Weather Service anticipates light to moderate rain, but there’s still “considerable uncertainty” about the exact timing and intensity.
🚧 Safety Updates
On Sunday, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department lifted all rain-related evacuation orders, but urged residents to continue driving slowly and staying alert to changing road conditions. Meanwhile, Malibu issued warnings over the weekend for residents to watch for mudslides and debris flows, especially in canyon areas.
L.A. just had one of its wettest Novembers ever and with two more storms rolling in, that total is about to climb even higher. Keep the umbrellas close, check road conditions before heading out, and maybe plan a cozy indoor day or two.
