The Los Angeles Lakers are once again bringing art and basketball together through their annual In the Paint Art Show program. This year’s initiative celebrates local artists of color who are creating meaningful artwork that reflects the vibrant culture of Los Angeles.
The exhibition will officially open to the public The event will take place Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 5-8 p.m. at Band of Vices Art Gallery, an iconic art gallery in downtown LA’s Arts District.
Celebrating Artistic Expression
The In the Paint program underscores the Lakers’ deep connection to Los Angeles and its creative community. This year, ten artists from the Greater Los Angeles area have been selected to produce original works.
The themes of triumph and expression have been the inspiration for their work. These pieces will be showcased in a curated exhibition that brings together sports, culture, and art enthusiasts.
Lakers Art Show, Exclusive Grants and Recognition
In addition to showcasing their work, the selected artists will receive a $10,000 grant from the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation. This financial support aims to foster their creative pursuits and amplify their voices on a larger platform.
The Lakers organization will also honor the artists by featuring their creations across team events and platforms, helping to elevate their influence in both the local community and beyond.
A Unique Art Collaboration
The Lakers have partnered with Band of Vices, a cultural hub for emerging artists, to present the exhibition. This collaboration aims to promote underrepresented voices in the art world and highlight LA’s artistic diversity.
The exhibit will also feature curated pieces from previous In the Paint program participants. Some of these artworks now adorn the walls of the Lakers’ UCLA Health Training Facility.
The exhibition will open with a soft launch event on February 5, 2025, providing attendees with an exclusive opportunity to meet the artists and view their creations before the public opening.
