Rest In Peace, Maestro.
The world-famous musician and composer Ennio Morricone has passed away at the age of 91. A few days ago, the beloved musician fell and broke his femur. The Oscar winner—known as “The Maestro” in his hometown of Rome—died overnight at a clinic in the Italian capital. Morricone’s wife, Maria, who accompanied him with dedication in every moment of his professional life, was by his side until his last breath. The funeral, as announced by the lawyer Giorgio Assumma, will be held privately.
Born in Rome on November 10, 1928, Ennio combined his passion for sport (playing football in Rome) with that of music from a young age. He received an honorary Oscar in 2007 t0 reward his great achievements in film, and was later awarded an Oscar of his own in 2016 for The Hateful Eight.
Ennio Morricone has written music for more than 500 films and TV series, and his music has been used in over 60 award-winning films. His works produced for Spaghetti Westerns, such as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, made him famous all over the world.
He is also famed among fans of Heavy Metal. Ennio Morricone’s opus “The Ecstasy Of Gold” famously opens every show by Metallica. And, as you can see below, it builds up quite the spectacle.
Among his successes are the masterpieces of the Dollar Trilogy (the first three western films directed by the Roman director Sergio Leone), Once Upon A Time In The West and The Untouchables.
