Tucked behind a wooden slat fence near the Venice Boardwalk, a curved metal door opens into Little Room Portraits, a hidden photo studio with a unique twist.
Located right off Abbott Kenney Boulevard, passersby can walk right into the small, tent-like, stylized room with patterned rugs and ornate metal lamps for 15-minute appointments. The studio specializes in quick, professional photography sessions accessible directly from the street.
“We’re really based off the idea that everybody deserves a beautiful portrait,” Sam, Little Room’s Studio Manager, tells Secret Los Angeles. “We care about making a photo that will last a lifetime. That’s our goal at Little Room.”
Shaelyn, the Studio Coordinator, echoes the sentiment. “We get to have 15 minutes with someone, really get to know them, and Sam takes a beautiful portrait.”
Inside the studio
High-contrast images against a dark red curtain backdrop, every portrait taken inside the small space is printed in black and white. By removing color, each photograph has a raw, authentic feel that highlights the subject’s personality.
At the end of the 15-minute session, guests immediately review their digital proofs on a tablet to select their favorite shot. The chosen image is printed on-site, trimmed to size, secured in a white matte frame, and stamp the border with the studio’s distinctive logo using a custom embossing press.
