Los Angeles has no shortage of themed bars, but The Last Canteen on Ventura Blvd is taking things to a whole new level. Built by veterans of Universal’s Horror Nights, this new post-apocalyptic themed bar in Studio City brings a movie-quality, fully immersive interior inspired by Mad Max and the Fallout video game series.
We got a tour from co-owners Drew Aloe and Jimmy Clements (also co-founded by TJ Lewis), and the attention to detail is next-level — starting with a real prop bomb hanging from the ceiling. It’s not a replica, the bomb was an actual prop used in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken!
The Last Canteen’s Backstory
The team built out an entire fictional history for the space. According to the bar’s lore, the building was once home to the Morris & Sons bottling company — until a nuclear apocalypse changed everything. A fictional founder later converted the ruins into a survival canteen, and her original metal canteen still hangs on the wall today.
That storytelling shows up throughout the bar:
- Rusted metal fixtures and exposed brick
- Vintage TVs playing old-world footage
- Fallout Shelter warning signs
The Last Canteen’s themed-menu
The theming carries straight into the food and drinks, with dishes named after the bar’s fictional universe — the Caesar’s Legion Salad, The Green Plate, Soylent Green cocktails, and The Last Meal bundle. Comfort food staples like burgers, grilled cheese, and loaded nachos are served in baskets lined with custom newspapers, packed with headlines and Easter eggs for patrons to find while you eat.
