Next year is going to be a big year on the West Coast for Mario Kart fans. The long-awaited Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood is opening and ogling over the eye-popping images of the counterpart in Japan has only made the wait feel even longer. Now, as the 2023 opening draws nearer, we’re getting a little taste of what’s to come with a recent reveal of a Mario Kart: Bower’s Challenge ride.
According to a Universal Studios Hollywood press release, the attraction will be one of “the largest and most interactive rides” in the world. It’s based on the video game series. It will feature state-of-the-art augmented reality, projection mapping, and elaborate set pieces that move along with the ride that all blend seamlessly together to create an unparalleled immersive experience.
Guests at Super Nintendo World, which marks the first to debut in the United States, will be transported to the Mushroom Kingdom, where iconic environs will come to life in a vivid entertainment utopia. On “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge,” you’ll get to select a player, wait for a countdown from Lakitu, and enter a completely unique race. As part of Team Mario, guests navigate various landscapes while collecting coins to defeat Team Bowser and win the Golden Cup.
