The Los Angeles Metro has started an important construction phase on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood. This is part of the D Line Subway Extension Project, a major plan to connect Koreatown to Westwood with a fast underground subway. The project will make traveling between Westwood and DTLA much quicker, taking just 25 minutes.
As Santa Monica Mirror explains, over 700 concrete panels that acted as a temporary road above the future Westwood-UCLA subway station are being removed. This is a big milestone for the project, allowing construction to continue inside the station itself. Metro expects the work to take place over 10 to 12 weekends, finishing by December.
Weekend traffic changes

To reduce disruption, work will only happen on weekends. Eastbound lanes on Wilshire Boulevard will stay open, but westbound traffic will be detoured at Westwood Boulevard to Kinross Avenue or Ohio Avenue. Eastbound lanes will be reduced to two. Drivers are advised to allow extra time and consider alternative routes through Westwood.
After the panels are removed, Metro contractors will restore Wilshire Boulevard to normal conditions. This step will make it easier to continue work on the underground station and keep the project on track for its 2027 completion.
