A Heat Wave Is Heading To LA This Weekend

It’s been decided… we’re spending the weekend poolside.

A heat wave is heading towards Southern California on Thursday and it’s expected to last through the Monday of the next week. If you happen to live in Woodland Hills and Santa Clarita areas – expect to see the weather rise to as warm as 97 degrees.

A National Weather Statement predicts that “dangerously hot conditions are possible Friday and Saturday. Onshore flow should strengthen early next week and bring a cooling trend.” Los Angeles Daily News reports that meteorologists attribute the heat wave to an upper-level ridge of high pressure anchored this morning near the Four Corners Region — southwestern corner of Colorado, southeastern corner of Utah, northeastern corner of Arizona and northwestern corner of New Mexico — combined with a weakening onshore flow.

Maximum temperatures on Saturday will be around the 80s to 90s in the Mountains and Foothills, 90s to 105 in the Inland Valleys, and 70s to 80s in coastal areas.

A few tips to remain cool and beat the heat are:

  • To limit outdoor activities, particularly during the hottest part of the day.
  • To drink plenty of fluids and to remain cautious of alcohol and caffeine intake.
  • To dress in lightweight, loose fit clothing.
  • To, obviously, not leave children and pets in an enclosed car AT ANY POINT OF THE DAY!
