New Mobility Solutions
The Los Angeles City Council recently approved a new plan to create integrated Mobility Hubs around Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Long Beach. These new hubs will be strategically placed around metro rail stations in order to help commuters on the very last leg of their journey home. The locations were chosen because of the density of the local population and their reliance on public transportation.
Planning and Funding
The new plan will be funded by the City of Long Beach, the City of Los Angeles, and the L.A. Metro with an estimated budget of over $10 million. The council hopes for the plan to be finished in 5 years. The transit firm, Transito Smart Mobility, has been tapped to design and operate the Mobility Hubs. The company has experience operating similar facilities in other cities in California.
Mobility Hub Locations
These integrated mobility hubs will focus on providing mobility services like, car sharing, bike sharing, secure bike parking, and better connections to public transportation. The proposed plan includes 13 primary hubs built in close proximity to metro stations. Plus, an additional 85 satellite hubs will be built in other strategic locations. This is all designed to fill in the missing gaps in the current public transportation system.
