The Chateau Marmont Secretly Opened A Hidden Japanese Restaurant • Chateau Hanare

A longtime celebrity playground managed to keep their recent restaurant opening on the down-low.

The infamous Chateau Marmont is known in Hollywood as the place to see, but where only a few can afford to be.

The prestigious hotel had no intention of having a grand opening for its new high-end restaurant nestled within. Recently, Chateau Hanare, a cottage-style Japanese restaurant quietly debuted as the newest addition tucked into the Sunset Strip.

Owner Reika Alexander is known for EN Japanese Brasserie, a well-established hotspot located in Manhattan’s West Village. Having been skilled and trained in piano for most of her life, Alexander thinks that a restaurant opening should be executed the same way as a performance – starting softly before finding the key and picking up the tempo.

Earlier this summer, you couldn’t find any information about the restaurant online (i.e. a phone number) besides a landing page – now the intimate space which was once a residential building is open to the public. Expect the menu to reflect seasonal sashimi, small plates, and refined comfort dishes, starting with freshly scooped tofu prepared at various times of each service evening.

Chateau Hanare roughly translates to “a cottage set apart”, so it makes sense that the restaurant sits on the iconic property of The Chateau Marmont Hotel & Bungalows, yet apart from the actual hotel. You can find the entrance along Selma off Sunset Boulevard.

Location: 8097 Selma Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046. See it on Google maps.
Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm and Friday – Saturday, 6:00 pm – 12:00 am.
