The Obamas Will Be The Commencement Speakers For The Class Of 2020

“I’ve always loved joining commencements,” — Barack Obama.

The class of 2020 might not have ended their school year as they had planned — understatement, much? — but it’s hard to imagine their graduation ceremony could have been topped (even if it is virtual).

Having already booked Oprah for a commencement address, not to mention the scheduled appearances by Miley Cyris, Lil Nas X, Simone Biles, Awkafina, and Jennifer Garner — with John Krasinski at the ready to chip in his good wholesome support — you would have thought the star-studded speakers would of have been ample compensation for the graduating students.

But the importance of excellence in education is a momentous milestone in students’ lives that is not to be overlooked. And who knows better than former president, Barak Obama, who’s signed on to give a commencement address in honor of the graduating students.

“I’ve always loved joining commencements — the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. Even if we can’t get together in person this year, Michelle and I are excited to celebrate the nationwide Class of 2020 and recognized this milestone with you and your loved ones,” Obama wrote on his Instagram.

That’s right: the graduating students will also be treated to a commencement address by lawyer, author, film producer, current documentary subject, and Former First Lady, Michelle Obama.

But even that’s not all. The graduating class of 2020 will also receive commencement addresses from: former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice; Secretary of Defense, Robert M. Gates; Google CEO, Sundar Pichai; and renowned activist, Malala Yousafzai — the youngest Nobel Prize laureate ever.

What is a graduation ceremony without an after-party? The momentous occasion will be topped off with virtual performances by Lady Gaga, K-Pop superstars, BTS, and more.

Premieres Saturday, June 6 12pm PT
