Quarter Sheets pizza parlor in Echo Park is serving up savory and sweet slices with style, sass, and a tongue-in-cheek attitude. Chefs and co-owners, Hannah Ziskin and Aaron Lindell, have created an eclectic pizzeria that makes you feel like a kid again. More specifically, their deliciously fun menu can often seem like an elevated, adult version of a really cool kids’ birthday party with pizza and cake as the main menu offerings.
Plus, they’ve been ranked as “Best Restaurant” by both the New York Times and Los Angeles Times in 2023. And as if that wasn’t enough, they were added to the California Michelin Guide just this year.
Something Savory
Lindell is the mastermind behind all the savory menu items at Quarter Sheets. They offer three different pan-style pizzas. Their pizza menu is inspired by “old-school pizza parlors” and “contemporary California cuisine.” Plus, their pizzas have been known to be topped with everything from Funyuns to shrimp cocktail to oxtail curry.
Here are a few of their past pizza offerings to get your mouth watering:
- Spring Maui onions, mozzarella, garlic cream, bloomsdale spinach, serrano chili, & Gouda
- Smoked chicken, ancho sauce, red onion, Gouda, & cilantro
- Kimchi, mozzarella, gochujang red sauce, guanciale, scallion, & sesame crust
- Sambal goreng, mozzarella, red sauce, guanciale, jalapeño, & pineapple marmalade
Something Sweet
While desserts might be an afterthought at most traditional pizza parlors, the dessert menu is definitely not overlooked here. They’re part of the main draw, with Ziskin’s creations generating major buzz and bringing in customers with just as much pull as the pizza. Every gourmet pastry offering is just as fun and delicious as their pizzas.
Plus, Ziskin was named as one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs in 2023. Her “slab” cake creations feature layers of delectable cake, fruit, jam, or cream with unusual and fun flavor combinations. Like her Princess Cake which features “olive oil chiffon layered with tart
raspberry jam, vanilla bean custard and mascarpone chantilly covered in a housemade marzipan.” Additionally, Quarter Sheets often offers other dessert
specials like “elaborate sundaes with housemade ice-cream or salty-sweet chocolate cream pies.“
Here are a few of the past Quarter Sheets Slab Cake offerings to give you an idea of what she’s capable of:
- Yuzu Custard – yuzu & lime custard, creme fraiche chantilly & candied Meyer lemon in a housemade graham shell
- Dutch Apple – Pink Lady & Braeburn apples with caramelized apple butter and brown butter & brown sugar crumble.
- Honey Bourbon Pecan – Toasted pecans, orange blossom honey, dark muscovado sugar and a glug of bourbon, finished with sea salt.
- Dark Chocolate Cream – chocolate custard topped with salty brown sugar chantilly & Valrhona chocolate curls.
- Princess Cake – Olive oil chiffon layered with raspberry jam, vanilla bean custard, and mascarpone chantilly. Finished with housemade almond marzipan.
