People are loving the Star Wars cabaret-style parody show The Empire Strips Back. Stage and Cinema said of The Empire Strips Back: “Forget about Broadway or the latest Marvel Comic movie. The fun, hip and cool burlesque Star Wars parody — which isn’t just for fans of the franchise — is the show to see […] live onstage in Hollywood.”
So what’s got everyone so hyped about this spaced-out striptease? Here are five reasons to find out for yourself:
1. The Music
The music in The Empire Strips Back covers just about every genre you can think of. You’ve got Nicki Minaj pop, System Of A Down metal, softer tracks from Portishead, and classics from Run-D.M.C., Bonnie Tyler, and Gun N’ Roses. They’ve even got Tenacious D! You can also access the full playlist here.
2. The Sets & Costumes
The organizers of this show didn’t simply run down to a Halloween store and cut all the Stormtrooper costumes into crop-tops. There’s lightsabers, tauntauns, a feminine C-3PO, a functional R2-D2, a full-sized Jabba the Hutt, and many more sets, costumes, and props that look straight out of the latest blockbuster film.
3. Who Doesn’t Love Burlesque?
Burlesque often features stripteases, but the word essentially means “parody.” And whether it’s a Shakespeearean satire or Spaceballs, who doesn’t love a good parody? Throw in a killer soundtrack, Chewbacca, and some of the most talented dancers around, and you’ve got The Empire Strips Back.
4. The Merch
The Empire Strips Back offers beautifully designed t-shirts, but there’s even more than you’ll find at your average merch table. The coolest item by far is Wookierotica, a classy Playboy-style magazine set in the Star Wars universe. Check out all the merch here!
5. The Surprises
This last reason to see The Empire Strips Back is one we won’t go into too much detail about because it’s best to discover for yourself. But hear us out.
During the show no photography is allowed. This is to respect the performers and be considerate of other audience members, but also because there are some turns this show takes that will absolutely blow you away, and it’s best if they’re kept secret.
There’s one number in particular involving the Death Star that we couldn’t stop laughing about. So find out for yourself and get your tickets to the fun, funny, and steamy Empire Strips Back show before it leaves LA on January 28th!
