Be sure to shoot first at Hollywood’s sci-fi bar Scum & Villainy.
Lovingly modeled after the famous Mos Eisley Cantina from the original Star Wars trilogy, this irresistible nightspot aims to be the best place in town ‘to meet like-minded geeks, smugglers, or bounty hunters.’
Originally founded back in 2016 as a temporary pop-up, the venue was immediately embraced by the L.A. nerd community and is now open on a permanent basis. The bar serves up plenty of themed cocktails (The Scoundrel’s Delight and The Mind Trick among them) including Star Wars’ very own Wretched Blue Milk, fresh from a female bantha.
The food menu is rather less bizarre with burgers, wings, tacos and cheese sticks among the restorative rations on offer.
The Cantina has a regular programme of inclusive events, from weekly themed game nights to trivia quizzes and ‘low-to-no judgement karaoke.’ It’s also a go-to spot for geek-oriented events: recent happenings have included Twitch streamer meetups, Kevin Smith podcast tapings, and pre-movie get-togethers for the most hotly anticipated new sci-fi screenings.
Civilians are more than welcome to drop by for a burger and a beer, and kids are even allowed to visit with parents before 8pm. Nonetheless, dressing up and embracing the cosmic theme is wholly encouraged, and the venue’s Instagram feed is full of hilarious images of people doing exactly that.
So grab your blaster, assemble your Rebel Alliance and chart a course to the Scum & Villainy Cantina. There’s nowhere else quite like it this side of the Kessel Run…
