The A road closure due to a sinkhole that shut down an off-ramp on the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass has been extended
Caltrans District 7 on Monday announced it is extending the closure of the southbound 405 Freeway off-ramp to Skirball Center Drive from Monday to “the end of the week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.”
On Sunday, February 19, 2024 — Caltrans District 7 announced the following via X:
The Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive offramp from the northbound I-405 and the Sepulveda pass is closed until further notice due to a sinkhole.
The 405 is a significant freeway that connects many to the larger Los Angeles area. Thousands of vehicles use this route daily, and drivers are being advised by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Caltrans to plan for delays and use alternate routes for their commute — which you can find using Caltrans’ Quick Map Tool here.
Although the cause of the 405 sinkhole has not yet been stated, the record-breaking downpour of rain in Southern California has caused potholes, sinkholes, and landslides across Los Angeles County. Just last week, on February 17, 2024 — the City of Los Angeles and Mayor Bass also put out a statement regarding the repairs of over 4,000 potholes, reinforcing hills at risk of mudslides, and preventing power outages.
“We have been working diligently to recover from the storm that hit us earlier this month by covering potholes, protecting saturated land, and more. Now, we must remain prepared for the additional rainfall coming to Los Angeles in the coming days,” said Mayor Bass in the statement.
There is no word as to when exactly the Skirball Canter Drive/Mulholland Drive 405 offramp will be reopened. Be sure to check back here for updates and follow Caltrans online for announcements.
