If you’re vegan or vegetarian, chances are you’ve been making your Taco Bell order veg-friendly already. (Shout out to their black beans!) But now, vegans won’t have to make modifications to their order thanks to their new crunchwrap — with a twist.
“Such a large part of our fandom is vegan or vegetarian, and we’re as committed to them as they are to us and our menu,” said Liz Matthews, Global Chief Food Innovation Officer at Taco Bell in a statement. “That’s why we took so long, months and years, to release something this special; we wanted and needed to get it exactly right, to get it mouth-watering. Because let’s admit it, we’ve all eaten plenty of products on today’s market that don’t taste great and certainly aren’t craveable.”
The Vegan Crunchwrap is filled with the classic ingredients you know and love, like shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and vegan “seasoned beef” along with two vegan sauces — blanco sauce and vegan nacho sauce.
This new vegan staple is only being tested at L.A.’s Hollywood location, which also features boozy drinks on their menu, so you can definitely indulge in more ways than just one. Keep in mind that it is in its testing phase gauge customer feedback, so it will be available now for a limited time and while supplies last!
“Our fans are always hacking our customizable menu to try new options, especially veggie-forward,” said Missy Schaaphok, Director of Global Nutrition and Sustainability at Taco Bell in a statement. “So now we’re hacking the hack, if you will, with a product that’s completely vegan as-is, right off the menu. I may be biased, but no veggie burger could compare.”
Note: Since the vegan beef created for the vegan crunchwrap, the proprietary plant-based ingredient will be unavailable for individual orders.
