If you’re TikTok, then chances are you’ve seen viral videos featuring towering stacks of impossibly fluffy pancakes from cozy Japanese cafes. And one of those cute Japanese cafes just opened a branch right here in Los Angeles. Takagi Coffee opened their first U.S. store in Southern California after opening branches in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Fluffy Soufflé Pancakes
Japanese-style soufflé pancakes are all the rage online, but they actually live up to the hype. Soufflé pancakes feature smooth tops and tall, airy interiors. They get their fluffy texture from whipped egg whites carefully folded into the batter.
However, unlike traditional American-style pancakes, these treats aren’t quite as sweet. The pancakes are served with cold butter and swirls of whipped cream. But diners can also choose to add toppings like strawberries, mixed berries, bananas, chocolate, ice cream, and even adzuki beans. To maintain their delicate, airy texture, the soufflé pancakes are exclusively available for on-site enjoyment.

A Hot Cup of Comfort
The perfect pairing for pancakes is a steaming hot cup of joe. And Takagi Coffee sources specialty beans from around the world to create the perfect cup of coffee. Plus, all of the delicious teas are sourced from Okinawa and can be served hot or iced.
Savory Japanese Eats
While the soufflé pancakes are the big draw for Takagi Coffee, they also serve up delectable savory Japanese dishes. Some of the special Japanese recipes include omurice, chicken nanban, and katsu with rice and miso soup. Plus, they offer wafu pasta, a Japanese take on pasta which consists of a vegetable spaghetti with onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach shiso leaves, and arugula.
