Target is continuing its bold expansion strategy with the opening of a massive new “store-as-hub” just three hours from L.A. This new location, spanning more than 146,000 square feet, is part of a growing trend at Target to combine traditional retail with digital fulfillment, The Street reports. Unlike standard stores, these larger formats are designed to handle more inventory and serve as regional hubs, giving customers a faster, more seamless online shopping experience.
The brand-new California store will be located at 205 South Clovis Avenue, Fresno, spanning an impressive 148,000 square feet. It will be one of seven new locations opening this fall, with six exceeding the standard 125,000 square-foot layout. By positioning these stores as both shopping destinations and fulfillment centers, Target is aiming to streamline digital order processing while expanding in-store offerings.
Target’s store-as-hub model leans heavily on its existing physical footprint, with most online orders now fulfilled directly from stores. This strategy has become even more relevant as more Americans embrace online shopping, particularly for groceries and everyday essentials.
