If you still remember wandering through the aisles of Toys R Us as a kid, you may soon have even more chances to relive the experience. The iconic toy retailer has announced plans to open 120 standalone stores across the U.S. ahead of Christmas.
These new openings will bring its total number of standalone locations nationwide to 160. The expansion is happening in partnership with Go! Retail Group and comes as the brand continues rebuilding its brick-and-mortar presence after closing its U.S. stores in 2018.
Where are the California Toys R Us stores?
Five Toys R Us locations are currently confirmed in California:
- Camarillo Premium Outlets — 630 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo
- Los Cerritos Center — 239 Los Cerritos Center, Cerritos
- Long Beach Towne Center — 7571 Carson Blvd., Long Beach
- Streets of Brentwood — 2455 Sand Creek Road, Brentwood
- Bay Street Emeryville — 5680 Bay St., Emeryville
That means California’s Toys R Us footprint is continuing to grow, although the company has not yet released a complete list of all 120 new stores or their individual opening dates.
What to expect at the new stores
The new Toys R Us locations will carry a selection of popular toys, collectibles and holiday gifts from brands including LEGO, Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Pokémon.
Select stores will also feature candy shops and cafés, giving the new locations more of an experiential feel beyond traditional toy shopping.
Some locations will also introduce Creator Studios, dedicated spaces where toy brands, influencers, and creators can produce content, reveal new products, and host events.
One of the California locations, Camarillo Premium Outlets, is among five stores selected to introduce the new Creator Studios concept.
When will the new Toys R Us stores open?
Toys R Us says the 120 new standalone stores will open during the 2026 holiday season, with all 160 standalone locations expected to be open by Christmas.
For now, shoppers can find existing locations through the Toys R Us store locator, while additional California locations and opening dates are expected to be announced as the expansion rolls out.
So, whether you’re shopping for the little ones or simply feeling nostalgic for the days of Geoffrey the Giraffe, Toys R Us is bringing a lot more toy-store magic back just in time for the holidays.
