As wildfire victims grow in Southern California, 12 professional sports teams across Los Angeles and Anaheim have joined forces to support those affected. The Lakers, Dodgers, Rams, Clippers, Chargers, Sparks, LAFC, Galaxy, Kings, Ducks, Angels, and Angel City FC have pledged over $8 million in donations to aid fire victims and first responders.
Los Angeles sports united to help wildfire victims
The donations will benefit organizations providing critical support during the fires, including the American Red Cross, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, and several local animal rescue groups. These funds aim to provide resources for displaced families, firefighters, and impacted wildlife.
In addition to financial contributions, the teams, in collaboration with Fanatics and the Fanatics Foundation, are donating $3 million worth of merchandise. Items include team apparel, hygiene kits, school supplies, and sneakers, distributed at three key locations: Dodger Stadium, SoFi Stadium, and BMO Stadium on January 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
How to participate in the donation drive
Residents from evacuated zip codes can attend distribution events with proof of residency. For those without transportation, bus services will shuttle evacuees from local shelters to the donation sites. Each event will also provide lunch for attendees, ensuring they receive both physical and emotional support during this difficult time.
Teams have individually organized fundraisers at their own stadiums. The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the teams that have used their upcoming home games to organize relief efforts.
Supporting the cause beyond donations
Fans can join the effort by purchasing limited-edition “LA Strong” merchandise through Fanatics, with all proceeds going to wildfire relief organizations. This initiative underscores the collective strength of the Los Angeles community and the role sports teams play in uniting people during crises.
As the fires continue to affect thousands, the collaboration between these teams demonstrates their shared commitment to helping the community rebuild and recover. Together, they are proving that the community is bigger than sports.
