A Different Multiverse?
Don’t worry. You didn’t accidentally get transported to an alternate universe. This new alternative name for McDonald’s is for a limited time only in celebration of their new anime collaboration. WcDonald’s is a version of McDonald’s that’s commonly featured in many popular anime shows. It first appeared in the 1981 manga and anime franchise “Cat’s Eyes”. That anime inspired a trend that is still going strong. Starting Feb. 26, the WcDonald’s universe will be released in 30 markets worldwide featuring a special sauce, manga-inspired packaging, episodic anime shorts, manga, and other surprises.
Anime Lovers Rejoice
“Anime is a huge part of today’s culture, and we love that our fans have been inviting us into the conversation for years,” McDonald’s said in the new announcement. The iconic Japanese manga artist and illustrator, Acky Bright, was tapped to design custom WcDonald’s packaging for this collaboration. Plus, McDonald’s has partnered for the first time with the legendary animation house, studio pierrot, to produce the first official WcDonald’s anime. Starting Feb. 26 and lasting until March 18, 2024, McDonald’s will drop a new anime short and new manga every Monday. 4 New Anime Shorts
- The Race to WcDonald’s (drops Feb. 26): A rivalry strong enough to withstand the test of time as our two heroes embark on an epic race to WcDonald’s.
- Love from Across the Booth (drops March 4): Our two protagonists discover the WcDonald’s Sauce and WcNuggets aren’t the only perfect pairing.
- WcNuggets Space Frontier 3000 (drops March 11): A team of WcDonald’s pilots must protect the last WcNugget against an ominous force.
- The Wisdom of the Sauce (drops March 18): Three women are transported to a distant land to unravel the mystery surrounding the elusive sauce before it’s gone forever.
A New Sauce
It’s a big deal when McDonald’s offers a new sauce, and this time is no different. The new Savory Chili WcDonald’s Sauce will be available for a limited time. In honor of the bold, dynamic spirit of your favorite anime heroes, this new sauce features a “unique combination of ginger, garlic and soy with a slight heat from chili flakes packs an energetic blast of flavor in every bite.” It pairs perfectly with any of the WcDonald’s menu items.
L.A.’s IRL WcDonald’s Experience
The first IRL WcDonald’s will be exclusively in Los Angeles. The WcDonald’s Immersive Dining Experience will be a “multi-sensory dining experience with a genre-bending fusion of entertainment and food.” Guests will enjoy a set menu of WcDonald’s items all while being transported into the WcDonald’s universe “through 360 projection mapping and immersive tabletop projections” inspired by the four new anime shorts. It’s only available for a super limited period from March 9-10. WcDonald’s fans can reserve their spot exclusively on OpenTable starting on Feb. 28 by searching “WcDonald’s Immersive Dining Experience” on the OpenTable app or on their website here.
