The iconic West Hollywood neighborhood is turning 40, and she’s throwing a party with her most glamorous residents front and center. As part of the city’s milestone anniversary, It’s Where I Belong: 40 Years (and More) of Drag in West Hollywood is sashaying into ONE Gallery, serving eleganza, cultural resistance, and a whole lot of sparkle.
The exhibition is a love letter to all the queer trailblazers who paved the way for drag as we know it today and who’ve made WeHo a global drag and queer capital. From early protests against police raids to today’s high-heeled struts down Santa Monica Boulevard, drag in West Hollywood has always been political, joyful, and unapologetically fabulous.
Guests can expect a fabulous mix of archival photos, videos, and flyers from iconic drag shows and events, featuring glimpses of stars like Bette Midler, Diana Ross, and Chappell Roan; drag royalty including RuPaul, Charles Pierce, and Jackie Beat; and beloved institutions like the Imperial Court and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
