Big news for wildlife and nature lovers! The world’s largest wildlife crossing is making huge strides, and the latest milestone is cause for celebration. On Tuesday, Caltrans announced that the letters for this groundbreaking project, being built over the 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills, have officially been installed on the side of the bridge.
This massive crossing, stretching over 200 feet long and 165 feet wide, will reconnect two natural habitats separated by one of the busiest highways in the country. As one of Southern California’s largest infrastructure projects, crews have been working nonstop to keep everything on schedule for its planned opening next year.
The best part? You can track the entire project’s progress online through the official Annenberg Wildlife Crossing website. There, you can check daily or weekly updates, or even watch a time-lapse showing the entire build from day one.
Just a few weeks ago, the crossing’s surface was completed, but it’s not just any concrete floor. Instead, the soil features natural materials designed to encourage the growth of native plants and insects, reduce light pollution, and expand the habitat for local wildlife across the freeway.
