San Fernando Valley isn’t generally known for wine tasting but the family behind Saddlerock Ranch wants to change that. Before it became Semler property, the Spanish-influenced estate was formerly owned by 1930s-era actor Francis Lederer and was later declared a historic-cultural monument in 1978.
For years, the mansion was used as an event space but the Selmer family has converted it to allow public drinking and light dining. You can expect a luxuriously lush lawn, perfect for live music, as well as an indoor-outdoor bar for wine and craft beers. Pizza is supplied by Two Doughs food truck on the weekends giving the space bonus points. What’s better than drinks and pizza?
The Selmer family bottles wine from their own vineyards in the Santa Monica Mountains so options will be limited to Saddlerock Ranch and Selmer-branded bottles. Technically the new project is an offshoot of the Semler’s laid-back tasting room in Malibu, but the gorgeous new property which sits just above Calabasas is a lot more extravagant.
