Yesterday, California announced a new public-private partnership to create a Disneyland-themed specialized license plate. The initiative aims to raise funds for children’s hospitals across the Golden State.
About the initiative

The proposed plate is being developed through a collaboration between the Disneyland Resort, the California Children’s Hospital Association, and the California Health Facilities Financing Authority. However, before the plates can hit the highways, they need to cross a specific finish line: the DMV requires a minimum of 7,500 preorders to begin production.
Fans eager to be among the first to sport the new design can join the official interest list at treasurer.ca.gov/chffa/plates. Once the 7,500-signature threshold is met, the DMV and the Treasurer’s Office will officially kick off the design review process, with the final look and presale orders expected to launch in the coming months.
How much will it cost?
Once approved and available, drivers can expect the following fee structure:
- Sequential Plates: $50 initial fee | $40 annual renewal fee (plus a credit card processing fee)
- Personalized Plates: $103 initial fee | $83 annual renewal fee (plus a credit card processing fee)
Driving support for pediatric care

Proceeds from the specialized plates—after administrative costs — will be deposited into a program fund administered by the CHFFA. These funds will be awarded to 13 children’s hospitals in California.
The funds are designed to support “essential but uncompensated healthcare services“. This includes personnel and clinical education costs, as well as patient and family-centered support programs that aid in a child’s care, recovery, and overall well-being.
“In this time when Californians are struggling to get access to care, we are thrilled to help unlock new funding to help expand care, improve health outcomes, and promote the well-being of children with serious and complex medical needs”, said California State Treasurer Fiona Ma.
