Starting on Friday, May 8th, 2026, LA Metro riders will finally be able to board the first part of the long-awaited D Line Extension!
LA Metro has been working on this highly anticipated project for over a decade. The full length of the extension will open in three phases as follows:
- Section 1 opening May 8, 2026: Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, and Wilshire/La Cienega stations
- Section 2 opening spring 2027: Beverly Drive and Century City stations
- Section 3 opening fall 2027: Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital stations
When completed, the D Line Extension will encompass 7 new stations across 9 miles, providing a half-hour connection between DTLA and Westwood ahead of the 2028 Olympics.

“The opening of Section 1 of the D Line extension also brings us three stops closer to connecting Metro to the westside, including the 2028 Olympic Village at UCLA where the world’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes will reside,” said Fernando Dutra, Metro Board Chair and City of Whittier Council Member.
“That connectivity from Downtown LA to the westside will serve as a lasting legacy for all Angelenos.”
