Each spring, we look forward to the dazzling tulip bloom in La Cañada Flintridge’s Descanso Gardens. Volunteers planted over 35,000 tulip bulbs back in January, and we can’t wait to see the results of their hard work as the tulips hit peak bloom this March 2026.
Most years, the tulips start blooming in February, reach peak bloom in March, and cycle out in April. Descanso Gardens recently posted photos of the first tulips this week, adding that the flowers are on track for a brilliant bloom this month.
You can follow them on social media for updates about when the tulips will be at their best.
Most of the tulip bulbs are planted near the garden’s entrance and along the promenades. Historically, specimens on display include the “Crispa” tulips in soft pinks and corals and the red-and-yellow “Greigii.”
When is the best time to visit Descanso Gardens to see tulips?
The tulip bloom is usually dependent on the weather, so you’ll want to keep an eye on Descanso Gardens’ social media accounts for bloom updates and plan your visit accordingly.
“Peak bloom will likely occur in March, but it is dependent on the weather and can change year to year,” wrote Descanso Gardens on Instagram this week.
With sprawling gardens dating back nearly a century, Descanso has plenty of spring flower blooms that go beyond the tulips. Look out for blooms of peach blossoms, Japanese camellias, cherry blossoms, daffodils, and magnolias.
You can make a reservation online to visit Descanso Gardens daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
