Disney fans got a lot to unpack this weekend. During itsshowcase at D23, held this weekend in Anaheim, Disney laid out a wave of upcoming changes headed to Disneyland Resort — including a full reimagining of Tomorrowland, new details on the long-awaited Coco ride, and confirmation on when two new Avengers Campus attractions will finally open.
Tomorrowland is getting reimagined again
Disney revealed that Imagineers are developing a new vision for Tomorrowland, described as the next major chapter for the park as it heads toward future milestone anniversaries. Rather than a simple refresh, the project aims to rethink what the land represents altogether, leaning into a hopeful, idea-driven vision of the future while still honoring its original legacy. Existing attractions like Space Mountain, Star Tours, and Autopia will remain, joined by new experiences still in development. No opening date has been announced, and it’s expected to be one of the resort’s longer-term projects, arriving after several other expansions currently underway.
Alongside the Tomorrowland news, Disney confirmed the return of several nighttime shows starting in February 2027. A refreshed version of “Remember… Dreams Come True” will return to Disneyland Park, while an updated take on the original “World of Color” will debut at Disney California Adventure. The “Magic Happens” parade is also set to return to Disneyland Park in time for summer 2027.
The ‘Coco’ ride finally gets a story
Over at Disney California Adventure, new details emerged about the park’s first-ever Coco attraction, currently under construction near Pixar Pier. The boat ride will be set roughly a year after the events of the original film, following Miguel as he reflects on his journey through the Land of the Dead. Guests will enter through a space honoring Héctor Rivera’s music before boarding boats that carry them through key scenes from the story. The attraction will have no height requirement, making it accessible for younger visitors. Disney also released new renderings offering a glimpse of the attraction’s queue and one of its scenes. An opening date hasn’t been set.
Avengers Campus expansion gets a 2028 opening
Disney confirmed that both new attractions expanding Avengers Campus — Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab — will open in 2028, roughly doubling the size of the current campus. For Avengers Infinity Defense, several actors are reprising their on-screen roles, with guests experiencing massive physical sets blended seamlessly with large media screens. For Stark Flight Lab, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, and Brie Larson are all set to reprise their roles from the films.
Based on Disney’s current timeline, the Avengers Campus expansion is expected to open first in 2028, followed by the Coco ride, with the reimagined Tomorrowland and a future Avatar-themed land following after that.
