The magic began on July 17, 1955!
The Happiest Place on Earth turns 64 today and like most things from the ’50s, has come a long way. On opening day, Disneyland offered five themed ‘lands’ with a total of 20 attractions. Over ninety million viewers tuned into the largest broadcast of their time to watch the unveiling of the world’s most fabulous kingdom as well as Walt Disney’s opening dedication speech.
Day one park lovers have seen many things come and go over the years, but did you know that a handful of attractions from back then are still around? Though they may have got a facelift or two (it is L.A, after all), nearly a dozen of Walt Disney’s original designs still generate some of the longest lines at the theme park while standing up against newer additions like Indiana Jones, Hyperspace Mountain, and its newest extension Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Some things will never change, and in Disneyland’s case, we’re not complaining. Here’s a look at the oldest attractions inside the park!
