8 Last Minute Things To Do With Your Dad This Father’s Day

June 16th is right around the corner!

And let’s be honest about your last minute gift ideas – your dad doesn’t need any more shirts, shaving kits, or tools. Instead of gifting him with more clutter for Mom to clean up, why not take Pops out for a day he’ll brag about to his pals for the next decade.

We’ve curated a list of things to do this Father’s Day that every dad out there would enjoy.

If he enjoys the outdoors…

Embark on a timeless camping trip. Located in the Angeles National Forest at an altitude of 6,300 feet, Buckhorn Campground is known for keeping campers cool which is especially convenient as the weather starts to heat up. RVs are welcome on the campgrounds as long as they’re under 18 feet and the rate per night is $12. The campgrounds contain about 38 sites so be sure to plan accordingly; Buckhorn is first-come, first-served. Learn more here.

If he’s a “cool dad”…

Plan a day for shredding waves in Malibu. If your dad has any experience hanging ten, then take him to the Malibu Surf Shack where you can rent everything from a wetsuit to a paddle board. The local surf shop even offers lessons and private two-hour tours along the beautiful coastline of Malibu and mountain range of Santa Monica. Gift certificates and monthly memberships are available for purchase as well. Learn more here.

If he is a carnivore…

Take advantage of sitting back and relaxing in an authentic dining car while also feasting on an assortment of BBQ lunch options. There are two rides on Father’s day, each departing at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Learn more here.

If he has the best dad-jokes…

Spark content-inspiration by watching a comedy show. Share laughs together at Groundlings on Melrose Place, a famous improvisation and sketch comedy theatre that has been entertaining LA audiences for over 40 years. If he’s a kid at heart…

Blow off some steam on the race tracks. Considering traffic in the city, the chances of your dad getting to put the pedal to the medal are very slim. Head over to Speedzone to tend to his need for speed with a 100-horsepower NHRA dragster, and then carhop to the Grand Prix, a track modeled after the Formula 1 and Indy Car racing circuits. After a few victory laps take a break by playing mini golf, arcade games, or bowling. One of the best parts… buy one, get one combo meals as well as happy hour at the bar. Learn more here.

If he loves movies…

Enjoy a classic film under the stars. What better way to preview an iconic film than to have the city as its backdrop? Starting as the sun sets and the stars begin to sparkle, Street Food Cinema will be screening La La Land at Griffith Park as well as Step Brothers at the LA State Historic park, surely making this Father’s Day an unforgettable experience. Dad will especially love the variey of food trucks in attendence – don’t forget to bring Dad’s favorite lawn chair! Learn more here.

If he’s artsy-fartsy…

Get creative and take Pops to an immersive art exhibition featuring the works of transformational artist Andriod Jones! Expect mind-altering visuals that’ll blow you away and a fully immersive experience that’ll captivate you. Take your experience to the next level with the Microdose interactive VR gaming and 3D video on Samskara that’ll take your breath away. You don’t have to be an art lover to enjoy this exhibition – but you may walk out as one! Learn more here.
