The largest Guatemalan festival outside of Guatemala is taking over Los Angeles this August – and it’s free to enter!
The 10th Annual Festival Chapin de Los Angeles lands August 29 and 30 in LaFayette Park, over in L.A.’s Westlake neighborhood. The two-day community event will take over a seven-block stretch in the heart of the neighborhood’s Guatemalan community with music, arts and crafts, and authentic Chapin cuisine.
The event is free to enter, with food available for purchase, including traditional Guatemalan dishes like garnachas (similar to a Mexican sope), shucos (Guatemalan-style hot dogs), chicken pepián, enchiladas, and hilachas (stewed meat), and more. The event’s market will sell footwear, pottery, jewelry, clothing, traditional tablecloths, purses, and more.
The family-friendly event is open to all ages. Public transportation to the event is recommended, though street and nearby garage parking is available.
