Running is already a win on its own, as we workout our muscles and fill our lungs with pure fresh air… But if we can do this at one of L.A.’s most iconic parks, with rolling trails, scenic views, and the chance to pocket some serious prize money, is even better!
The Griffith Park Run Half Marathon & 5K returns this winter, combining competitive racing, community spirit, and a scenic tour of the city’s backyard wilderness, all while supporting a good cause and now with the chance of competing with your furry friends.
Griffith Park Run categories
The Half Marathon (13.1 miles) is the main event and the most competitive race of the weekend. With a $101.70 entry fee, participants receive an official event shirt, race bib, and finisher medal. This category also offers cash prizes for top performers, with overall winners taking home $400 for first place, $300 for second, and $200 for third.
The 5K Run/Walk is designed for runners of all levels. The registration costs $59.30 and includes an event shirt, race bib, and finisher medal. Awards also include age division medals and finisher medals. The Top Dog Division (5K) adds a playful twist to race day by letting runners team up with their four-legged companions. With a $47.50 entry fee, this category includes a special dog bib and a dog bone finisher medal for your canine co-runner.
Griffith Park Run route

The half-marathon starts fast and friendly, with the first four miles on flat, compact trail. Miles five through seven introduce rolling hills near the Pony Ride and Merry-Go-Round area, rewarding runners with wide views of the foothills.
The final stretch cruises past Travel Town and the L.A. Zoo, finishing with four of the fastest, flattest miles on the course. The 5K sticks to a smooth, flat loop around the golf course, quick, clean, and perfect for beginners, walkers, and doggies.
How to join the Griffith Park Run
Online registration is open through Saturday, January 31 at 11:59PM, with limited in-person and race-day registration available. Packet and bib pickup takes place at REI Burbank on Saturday from 12PM-6PM, or race morning starting at 6:30 AM near the Autry Museum outdoor area in Griffith Park.
Proceeds from the event support the L.A. Parks Foundation, which has invested over $42 million since 2008 to improve access to parks, protect green spaces, and promote environmental sustainability across Los Angeles.
