International Nurses Day 2020 is one we won’t forget.
Each year on May 12, International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world, but without a doubt, the one we’re living today will be one of the most noted occasions of all time. In what is the bicentennial of the birth of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) – considered the precursor for modern professional nursing – we may not be able to celebrate it in person, but we’re feeling more gratitude than ever.
Battling exhaustion, PPE shortages and putting their lives at risk in a highly stressful working environment, they’ve been one of the crucial parts of helping us get through this pandemic.
Today more than ever we must be aware of the importance and need of their work, and in this sense, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) requests help and resources so that “never again are we so poorly prepared in the world for a pandemic”.
So, here are a few of things you can do to show your appreciation:
There are few things that can help you through a physically exhausting day like a hot, nourishing meal. Frontline Foods allow you to give back to all front line workers by donating. The donations go towards local restaurants that will feed all local organizations that have signed up for it.—but you can also donate internationally.
JetBlue is giving back to the front line heroes by giving 100,000 flights away to healthcare workers. Anyone can nominate a nurse from anywhere. Find out more here.
3. Clap your heart out
It’s International Nurses Day, but really it should be every single day that this pandemic goes on. Most of us remain quite sheltered to the battle on the frontline; the emotional trauma and physical exhaustion that healthcare workers face every day! Join in and show your support.
