At any given time, up to tens of thousands of people tune into Big Bear’s live camera of its famous bald eagle nest, following the trials and tribulations of eagle couple Jackie and Shadow.
Events took a dramatic turn on July 16 and 17 when video surfaced of an adult bald eagle in a “ground altercation” with two other subadult eagles near Dana Point Park. The adult managed to fight off the other two eagles, but it was injured and unable to fly far, according to Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV), which operates the cameras.
The San Dimas Raptor Rescue Team rescued the eagle and took it to a rehabilitation facility. As followers of the Big Bear eagle cam hadn’t seen Jackie in several days, speculation rose that she was, in fact, the injured eagle.
Late last night, FOBBV posted an update on Facebook, writing, “We have received a good number of videos and pictures from the public and the initial rehab center and it is apparent that the rescued eagle is likely Jackie.
“She is in the best place she can be and getting the care she needs. We have not received any updates but were assured by the facility they will contact us when they have information.”

Jackie and Shadow are a mated bald eagle pair that reside in the San Bernardino National Forest near Big Bear Lake. Friends of Big Bear Valley has live-streamed their nest since 2018.
Over the past few years, their story has been especially dramatic, bringing in even more new fans. After successfully raising two female eaglets, Sunny and Gizmo, who fledged in June 2025, Jackie laid two eggs in early 2026 that were then sadly damaged and eaten by ravens. She eventually laid two more eggs, which hatched in April 2026.
Local Big Bear Elementary kids named the chicks Luna and Sandy, with Sandy honoring the late FOBBV founder Sandy Steers. Both juveniles fledged in late June and are still being fed by their parents.
FOBBV has not yet commented on how Jackie’s injury and absence might affect Shadow, Luna, or Sandy.
