In Los Angeles County, the spotlight lands on the waterfront in Marina del Rey, home to one of the region’s most popular Independence Day traditions and the county’s largest fireworks show.
The 20-minute display begins at 9 PM, with crowds typically spreading across the best viewing points, which include Fisherman’s Village, Mother’s Beach, and the surrounding walkways well before dusk.

Roughly four miles of streets surrounding the marina will be shut down or heavily restricted in phases, starting as early as 1:00 p.m. Soft closures begin at key entry points, including Strong Drive, Pacific Avenue, and Via Dolce at Washington Boulevard.
By mid-afternoon, the perimeter tightens further as major connectors such as Lincoln Boulevard ramps, Jefferson Boulevard links, and sections of Mindanao Way are gradually closed. As parking lots fill and pedestrian traffic increases, additional surrounding streets are restricted to prevent spillover into nearby neighborhoods.
In the final stretch before the big show and after 11 PM, turn restrictions along Admiralty Way and surrounding corridors will be imposed as well.
How to get to Marina del Rey on the 4th of July
Due to the heavy traffic restrictions, Los Angeles County authorities recommend using transit options or arriving well before sunset, since once the closures lock in, the marina effectively turns into a contained pocket of celebration surrounded by stalled roads.
Visitors are urged to arrive early as parking demand ramps up fast. Public lots across Marina del Rey, Venice, and Dockweiler charge holiday rates between $11 and $20, with cash recommended to speed up entry during peak hours.
For those avoiding the driving scramble, the Marina WaterBus runs from 11 AM to 11 PM, moving across eight stops in the harbor. The free Beach Shuttle also operates from 10 AM to 8 PM, linking key local points like Venice Beach Pier and Waterside Shopping Center.
