With summer already here, seasonal plans are starting to take shape. As the weather warms up, organizing an evening beach bonfire often becomes a popular choice for group gatherings. Dockweiler State Beach, located in Playa del Rey, offers a distinct beach experience in Los Angeles. Known for its wide stretches of sand and direct proximity to LAX, it is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, camping, and evening gatherings.
About Dockweiler State Beach
Because the beach sits directly beneath the LAX flight path, you can get a close-up view of planes taking off over the Pacific Ocean! Aside from the views, the real reason locals flock to Dockweiler is the fire rings. The beach is equipped with approximately 40 concrete fire rings situated directly on the sand. Los Angeles County has incredibly strict coastal fire regulations. Out of dozens of miles of county beaches, Dockweiler is one of only two public spots where you can legally build a beach bonfire.
Remember to follow the bonfire guidelines:
- Keep the beach clean by preventing ashes or debris from falling into the sand.
- Any grills or BBQs must fit inside the fire pit, which is 2′ wide. No grills, grilling, or flames or fires on the sand.
- To use the fire pits, you have to bring your own charcoal or wood and a way to light them.
- Please do not use sand to put out the fire.
